This Weekend at the GLCC and OUT in the Community (Jan. 2nd ...

Hey folks,

Hopefully you all have recovered from your New Year?s experiences and have all set your resolutions for the new year and have kept them so far. Just because the Holiday season is winding down that does not mean we are slowing down at the GLCC! We have many events going on and we hope to see you soon!

GLCC News

You can help support the GLCC simply by changing your energy provider. Starion Energy has partnered with the GLCC to make a $10 donation for every new customer that enrolls and then a $2 donation to the GLCC for each month you use Starion Energy. Ongoing at the GLCC is Project Snuggle Up. Please donate gently used coats so that homeless youth can stay warm this winter. Please feel free to drop off donations at the GLCC during normal hours.

Starting in January 2013, a new womens group will be implemented within?the GLCC.? This?women?s group will be a open discussion group for?women?to discuss a variety of topics, including, relationships, family, labels, spirituality, friends, work, school, and much more.??The?women?s group will also showcase?women?speakers?from the community to speak about?topics that are discussed within the group.? Among this group,?women?will have the opportunity to?speak on their experiences and?share topics with one another.? Each?woman?should have a day of pampering herself?and with that said,?the group will be able to pick a day every other month to?invite a nail artist, make-up artist, ect, to provide their services to the?women?of the group.? ?The group will?meet bi-weekly ( 2 times per month) on Mondays and?the length will be an hour long.? The tentative date for the informational session about the group will be on January 14th, from 5:30-6:30?pm at the GLCC.? Light refreshments will?be served.? All?women?are welcomed to attend.? Beginning in February, Camp Joy will provide a service to the children of LGBT families or those who identify as LGBT themselves aged 7-14 in hopes of showing?they can have fun being who they are and increasing social?confidence and enhance self-esteem. There will be arts and?crafts, swimming, field trips, discussion groups, a talent show,?snacks and a dance party, amongst other activities. The sessions?will culminate in an ?Open House Youth Art Show?, inviting?parents and friends of the campers to come and see what the?kids have been doing. A detailed itinerary will be available on?the GLCC website by the end of December.

The youth that will serve as volunteer counselors will be the?older youth that have already shown good leadership skills,?and who will be positive role models and have had previous?experience in activities at the GLCC in the past.

Starting February, Camp Joy will be held one Saturday a month?for 4 months, and one Sunday in June for an open house. The?cost will be $15 per session or $50 for all sessions. This will pay?for food, transportation and supplies. Fees and registration?paperwork will need to be received by Jan 28th.?You can mail?a personal check or money order, or bring cash to the GLCC.?Anyone at the front desk will be able to assist so call 412-422-0114, email campjoypgh@gmail.com or stop by the GLCC!

This Weekend at the GLCC

Thursday January 3rd:?Persad welcomes all school aged youth to come hang out at?Persad?s after school program?from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and enjoy the safe space with your friends.

The Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force provides?free HIV testing?at the GLCC from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. If you want to know your status come down and get checked out. No blood drawn and it only takes 20 minutes!

Friday January 4th:?Every Friday night at the GLCC is Youth Drop In Night. From 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. the GLCC shuts its doors but welcomes all youth aged 20 and younger to come down and hang out. We hope to see you there!

Saturday January 5th:?As with every first and third Saturday Spectrum is having its bimonthly drop in from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. All LGBTQIA identifying individuals and allies between the ages of 18 and 29 are welcome to stop by and hang out with old friends or make new ones. Please let us know if you have any cool ideas for us to do in the future for these meetups. We are always open to suggestions.

Yoga Chill Sundays

Every Sunday 4:30-5:30

Sunday January 6th:?Every Sunday is Yoga Chill at the GLCC. From 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Spend some time with good folks from the community to get some exercise and relax. It costs $5 to attend but you can park for free downtown!

With a captivating lineup of promises, platforms, and policies, you will surely be stirring in your seat for more! And DJ Tanner will keep the party going on the dance floor all night! Also, HMH will be hosting a coat drive for homeless youth for the GLCC?s Project Snuggle Up.?So get your friends together, and grab your red, white, and blue party hats and come celebrate the voice of the people with HMH!?Doors will open at 9pm, Showtime will be around 11pm. Non-smoking, 21+.

nexusrainbow newSunday January 6th:?NEXUS, a social catalyst for LGBTQIA indentifying individuals 50 and older,?will meet at the Homestead Eat?n Park, 245 E. Waterfront Drive, Homestead, PA 15120, at 1p.m. for Brunch.? That will then be followed by a movie at the Loews Waterfront. Email nexus@glccpgh.org for more information.

Come enjoy great performers and be ready to shout ?BINGO!? Tickets are $15 in advance and can be purchased online at glccpgh.org, at Banner Coin Exchange downtown or Klavon?s Ice Cream Parlor in the strip district. Get your tickets soon. They are sure to sell out.
