Rutherford, N.J.? ?NICE Systems today announced the winners of its 2012 PSAPs? Finest Awards in a ceremony held at the NICE booth (1013) during the APCO International 78th Annual Conference & Expo.
An annual awards program sponsored by NICE, the PSAPs? Finest Awards recognize extraordinary individuals who exemplify the best of 9-1-1 public safety communications. In the six years since the awards program was established, hundreds of nominations have been received from all over the United States and Canada, with more than two dozen individuals having received award recognition. Awards are presented in four categories: Director, Line Supervisor, Technician, and Telecommunicator of the year.
Any individual from any PSAP can be nominated. Winners are selected by a panel of judges from the 9-1-1 industry. This year?s PSAPs? Finest award winners included two recipients from the same agency, a first for the competition.
Serving on the 2012 judging panel were: Eric Janus (Operations Manager, Communications Center, Ottawa Police Service); Jhonnie Ortiz (Public Safety Manager, Fort Worth Police Department, Fort Worth, Texas); Craig Schulz (IT Manager, Raleigh ? Wake Co. Emergency Communications Center, Raleigh, North Carolina); and Anthony Castillo (Manager, Emergency Communications, Norfolk, Virginia).
?I am honored to have served as a judge for this program which recognizes public service heroes,? said Anthony Castillo. ?As I read the nominations, it was refreshing to see that PSAPs across the land are staffed with so many dedicated professionals. NICE is ?doing it right? by recognizing these outstanding people, who are doing outstanding things.?
?Serving as a judge for PSAPs? Finest has shown me that there are individuals who can stand out, even in a crowd of high flyers, for their courage, strong will, and dedication to co-workers and community,? added Eric Janus.
