More Negotiations with Union Pacific

Albert Lea, MN - Freeborn County is asking for more time to negotiate the purchase of abandoned railroad tracks.

The county is looking to buy the tracks from Union Pacific. The old railway will likely be turned into a walking and biking trail.

County leaders are asking for a 180 day extension to continue negotiations.

"We have requested it,?UP will request it of the Service Transportation Board, and we're assuming that the approval is given to extend that then into early 2013," said Freeborn County Administrator John Kluever.

The 12 mile stretch of abandoned track runs from Albert Lea to Hartland.
